Lightness, brightness, and restored ornamentation. After two years of work, the Great Hall at Valence station has regained its full splendor.

The multidisciplinary team at AREP contributed to the rehabilitation of the Great Hall at Valence station. The restoration was conducted in close collaboration with the Architects of the Buildings of France to preserve the station’s original character. The building holds a unique history, as it was initially part of the Saint-Germain-les-Fossés station before being meticulously relocated to Valence, piece by piece, in 1903.

Since its last renovation in 1970, the station has been upgraded to accommodate the increasing flow of passengers and to serve as a modern gateway to the city. It has also been adapted to address new restoration challenges.

A dialogue between heritage experts and engineers led to the innovative decision to use cellular polycarbonate as a replacement for glass, significantly reducing the weight of the grand skylight.
