Promoting intermodality across the entire region

With the multimodal hub in Issoire, AREP has delivered a post-carbon renovation project that highlights the region’s potential. Emphasising existing assets, greenery, albedo, and local resources, the design of the new multimodal hub reflects our EMC2B approach. Enhanced accessibility strengthens the mobility networks converging on the station, ensuring the renovation is fully tailored to local needs.

Beyond the initial plan to make the station accessible, the team proposed a comprehensive redesign of the mobility systems surrounding the station. The result is an integrated, sustainable hub focused on the region’s requirements. Every stage of the project, shaped by the scenario selected by the city of Issoire from a range of contrasting proposals, was designed to enhance existing assets and introduce sustainable solutions that promote intermodality and train use while improving the user journey.

The Issoire hub demonstrates that a bespoke project, grounded in local expectations and potential, is neither more expensive nor time-consuming than a less contextualised approach. It adds significant value to the area. Collaboration, co-construction, and leveraging local knowledge and resources have been key to transforming both practices and spaces in support of the transition.
