Gangxia North Station
The AREP group is putting the spotlight on natural light with the renovation of the underground station at Gangxia North.
In China, Gangxia North station is a strategic interchange for the Shenzhen metro, connecting lines 2, 10, 11 and 14. Covering an area of 220,000 m², it is 60% larger than the neighbouring Futian intermodal station, making it one of the largest underground infrastructures in the country.
At the heart of its design, a spectacular atrium dubbed the ‘Eye of Shenzhen’ immediately catches the eye. Inspired by Fermat’s spiral, this monumental dome opens onto a circular glass roof that bathes the space in natural light, breaking with the usual austerity of underground stations.
Majestic columns support the structure, giving the whole an almost cathedral-like solemnity. This immersive architecture aims to offer travellers a unique sensory experience, transforming the simple act of transit into a true aesthetic interlude.
True to our commitment to building a post-carbon future, our teams have designed a space that combines environmental performance with user comfort. The generous supply of natural light reduces energy requirements, while the organisation of the volumes promotes fluidity of movement and well-being.
Gangxia North thus embodies a new generation of transport infrastructure, where innovation, sustainability and quality of the user experience come together with elegance.
