Seaside “eco-town” in Vietnam
AREP has won the international ideas competition organised by the Construction Department in Ba Ria, Vietnam, to organise and develop the the Go Gang Island and the Lon and Nhỏ mountain areas in the coastal town of Vung Tau, Vietnam.
In connection with the three pillars of sustainable development (the environment, the economy and the social/societal aspect), AREP isolated several major urban transformation principles, at the level of the town and its developments around the port and shoreline:
- prevent natural risks by, for example, factoring in rising sea levels and their impact on regional development, managing wastewater (notably industrial wastewater) and the use of rainwater; preventing waste generation and developing waste recovery solutions;
- encourage mobility and eco-mobility (master transport plan);
- modify urban typology and density, control space consumption by identifying places suitable for development.
These principles helped in drawing up coherent development proposals for each of the sectors under study.
