Rejuvenation cure for Vichy station

The mainline passenger station in Vichy, which is destined to become the heart of an intermodal transport hub for the Vichy municipality, was in need of a complete makeover of its layout, facades and access facilities. In parallel with the restoration of the original, 19th century building, involving the recreation of its arcatures, clock and brick facings, the station has been remodelled in its urban setting through an in-depth redesign of access facilities and passenger walkways. Originally separated, the concourse and the subterranean walkway serving the platforms have now been united on the concourse side by a glassed-in arcade. Built along the full length of the facade, the arcade provides a direct link to the fully-renovated bus station. The recreation of a landscaped esplanade in front of the station, with its layout maximised for intermodal transport, was the finishing touch for a restructuring.
